A Children’s Centre the whole family can count on

As you may already know, there will be changes this year to Surrey Children’s Centres and how Surrey County Council supports families.

Surrey County Council’s new model will focus its resources on helping the families most in need of support, which means that a number of the existing Children’s Centres will close and others will become ‘Family Centres’. Surrey County Council will no longer provide universal services, that is services accessible to all families, at Family Centres. However, other organisations – such as health visitors – may offer these services at the Centres and/or at other community venues.

You can use the Family Information Directory to find universal services and other services, support groups, activities, events and more.

The changes will take place at different times across Surrey’s 11 districts and boroughs, so to make sure that families can find out what is happening in their area the district and borough pages on the Family Information Service website will be regularly updated from April. They will provide information about when current activities offered at Children’s Centres will close and where Family Centres will open.

In addition there is a new page on the website which provides information about the final proposals that were agreed by Surrey County Council’s Cabinet, and includes a link to the results of the consultation that was undertaken to get views and suggestions on the draft proposals.

Steppingstones currently remains open Monday – Friday, 9.00am – 3.00pm, for information and advice and for some limited activities: please see our current timetable for details. You can also keep up-to-date with our ‘Announcements’ section, to the right hand side of this page and/or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Kind regards,

The Steppingstones Team

At Steppingstones we understand that difference and diversity are to be respected and celebrated and we welcome all families regardless of ability, age, culture, gender, religion and sexual orientation.

It was lovely to see so many of our Steppingstones families old and new on Friday, along with returning staff members, volunteers, activity facilitators and wider colleagues. We would like to thank you for all your gifts, cards and kind words; it’s lovely to hear how much the Centre has meant to you all over the years and it has been a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of your parenting journeys! Frances, Marion and Rachel

IMPORTANT NOTICE!! Sadly, all of our universal play sessions have now FINISHED pending the Centre’s closure. Health services, our One Step group and Baby Cafe continue for the time being – see our digital timetable for up-to-date activity information – and we are still open daily for information and advice. Please do pop in and see us!

To help with the transition of the Centre closure, we have put together a list of some of the local playgroups available to you. We hope you enjoy trying out some new places! Local Playgroups Info
